Profile: Stephen Chase, Executive Director

Stephen Chase is Executive Director of the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation. He is responsible for managing and directing a major wild Atlantic salmon conservation trust fund with the goal of improving community-based stewardship of fish and fish habitat. He works closely with community organizations and with federal, provincial and aboriginal government agencies throughout Atlantic Canada and Quebec.

During a 20-year career with the Government of New Brunswick, he has worked in the departments of the Treasury Board, Justice, and Health and Community Services. He has extensive experience in intergovernmental relations, policy development and directing major government programs. He has negotiated and administered several federal/provincial and inter-provincial agreements.

More recently he was employed with the Atlantic Salmon Federation (1999 to 2004) as Vice-President, Government Affairs, where he was responsible for advocacy and developing stronger working relations with governments at the regional, national and international levels to conserve the wild Atlantic salmon. He also served as a Senior Policy Advisor with Fisheries and Oceans Canada in Ottawa and Moncton (2004-2006), where heled public consultations on salmon conservation programming. Prior to joining the ASCF Stephen was Executive-Director, Government Relations with Canadian Blood Services in Ottawa (2006 to 2007), with responsibility for business relationships with Provincial-territorial governments.

He holds degrees in Law and Arts (Biology) from the University of New Brunswick and currently serves in his third term as a City Councillor for the City of Fredericton.
