Developing the habitats of Saint-Jean river salmon by developing the fall at PK 69,5

Recipient: Association de protection de la Rivière Saint-Jean
Approved Amount: $43,410
Year Approved: 2017

The goal of the project is to enhance salmon habitat on Saint-Jean river on the North shore, by improving access to and use of spawning areas located in important proportions upstream of the first fall of PK 69.5. That barrier for the run is identified as unsurmountable according to the classification established for photo interpretation. The concept which was retained is a fishway with pools and thresholds. Thanks to this project, more salmon in good reproduction shape will access and use spawning areas and this will significantly increase habitat productivity which also reduces salmon injury and poaching of salmon confined at the base of the fall. This project which is financed for one year by the Foundation is the first phase of the building of a fishway on St-Jean river.
