Atlantic salmon habitat restoration and monitoring in Northeastern PEI rivers

Souris and Area Branch (SAB) of the PEI Wildlife Federation will enhance and rehabilitate salmon habitat in North Lake Creek, Priest Pond Creek, Cross River, Hay River, Bear River, Naufrage River and Cow River by installing brush mattresses and maintaining stream reaches to ensure fish passage by trimming alders, removing “blow-downs”, natural blockages and non-active beaver dams. SAB will increase Atlantic salmon habitat by opening up access to newly restored stream habitat in a tributary of Cow River by 0.5 km. SAB will conduct annual redd surveys in the fall to identify spawning areas.
