Reduction of the sediment load coming from potato fields in Restigouche River

Recipient: Restigouche River Watershed Management Council
Approved Amount: $18,000
Year Approved: 2014

With this project we will be able to reduce the sediment load from potato fields located in the Five Fingers Brook watershed in St-Quentin by approximately 150 tons a year.  By completing various works to restore drainage on agricultural land and to ensure revegetation, we aim to reduce the sediment load originating in the tributary that is the most severely affected by agriculture in the Restigouche River watershed.

Work is based on studies and reports completed following an imaging characterization (LIDAR) inventory (included). This work will be completed with heavy equipment and will consist in building terraces, sediment traps, and proceeding with the revegetation of riparian strips, and riprap.
