Margaree River watershed in-stream restoration and conservation activity for 2018. Margaree River watershed in-stream restoration and conservation activity for 2018

Recipient: Margaree Salmon Association
Approved Amount: $20,000
Year Approved: 2018

In 2018 we expect to hire our normal IN-STREAM crew of 4 people, as we did in 2017 we plan on hiring a coordinator to help us manage the in-stream crew and the crew we will require to support the DFO TRAPNET that was installed in 2017. We plan on looking at the following brooks: Big Brook, Ingram’s Brook, and Gallant’s Brook to improve the habitat and repair damage done during high water events. In 2018 we will also be asked to support DFO’s effort to capture and tag salmon in the Margaree River utilizing the trapnet installed in 2017.
With the release of the Geomorphic Assessment of the Margaree River completed by Matrix Solutions, MSA would like to consider hiring Matrix to complete a detailed design of one reach identified as high priority. This design would then provide MSA with information required to seek funding to complete restoration work designed for this REACH (estimated cost $25,000).
