Wild Atlantic Salmon Population Recovery and Conservation – Greater Kouchibouguac Watershed

This project aims to restore Atlantic Salmon populations in the Kouchibouguacis and Kouchibouguac watersheds to levels supporting a recreational fishery. To achieve this, the project will: A) implement long-term salmon population monitoring using improved count fence and trap-net operations; B) enhance salmon populations through in-stream incubation; C) gradually increase broodstock supply for the incubation program while maintaining genetic diversity; and D) conduct DNA analysis to assess the success of in-stream incubation versus natural spawning.
