Supporting Salmonids in the Shediac Bay Through Integrated Watershed Management Planning

Recipient: Shediac Bay Watershed Association
Approved Amount: $13,000
Year Approved: 2025

Over the past four years, the “Fisheries Management Plan” has compiled extensive water quality, electrofishing, eDNA, restoration, culvert assessment, and temperature data into a unified reporting template for major watercourses in the Shediac Bay watershed. A GIS database is being developed to visualize this data, while stream surveys using rapid geomorphologic and stream assessment techniques will further enhance understanding, supported by expert consultation. Key efforts include monitoring at priority sites, expanding temperature stations, and analyzing tributary impacts. eDNA results confirmed Atlantic salmon in specific areas, guiding further surveys and habitat restoration. Notable projects include culvert repairs, electrofishing surveys, ATV crossing restoration, and temperature monitoring for conservation. Additionally, education initiatives with schools and partnerships with Indigenous organizations continue to integrate ecological and cultural values into the watershed’s management strategy.
