Recipient: Souris & Area Branch Wildlife PEI Federation
Approved Amount: $24,200
Year Approved: 2010

The objective of this project was to begin to implement the recommendations suggested by Dr. Daryl Guignon in his report entitled: “A Conservation Strategy for Atlantic Salmon in Prince Edward Island”.This project will be a multi- year project (3 yrs) which will see enhancement activities on the four rivers mentioned plus Souris River (research river). Souris River would receive some special attention in year one to prepare for the release of 1500 smolt during 2009. The general direction would to be get the upper reaches of these five rivers more suitable for spawning over the first two years. Special emphasis will be place on getting tidal sections on the North Lake and Naufrage systems installed with structures to create pools in the third year. The goal would be to enable a restricted fishery within the next five years.brush-matting-on-souris-river
