Salmonid Interpretation Center, Interpretive Signage Project

Recipient: Environment Resources Management Association
Approved Amount: $42,169
Year Approved: 2025

The Salmonid Interpretation Centre is an engaging and exciting attraction for guests of all ages. The highlight of the Centre is the lower observation level where visitors can experience underwater views as salmon migrate upstream to their spawning habitat. Additionally, the lower-level hosts aquariums with Brook Trout, Sticklebacks, and live toads.

The main entry to the Centre at this point is underutilized. It is a large space which now sits relatively empty – it is the perfect space to engage visitors as they are welcomed to the site.

Interpretation Signage in the Salmonid Interpretive Centre

The main entry space of the Interpretation Centre could be an engaging, colourful, and educational space that would further enhance the educational experience to visitors of the facility. The proposed (9) interpretive displays will expand upon ERMA’s current education to visitors.

Interpretive signage in the site will achieve the following objectives:

  • Use a creative approach that informs and educates visitors while showcasing the history and natural

beauty of the Exploits River and its population of wild Atlantic salmon.

  • Facilitate ease of use and interactivity by a wide range of audiences of all ages.
  • Be recognized as exemplary in the field of salmonid interpretation.
  • Engage visitors and ensure maximum effectiveness of the message(s) of salmon biology, its habitat and the current threats to its very existence.

• Be memorable and educate through creative content, interesting graphic/visual style(s) and artful illustrations.
