Salmon Habitat Enhancement

Recipient: St. Mary's River Association
Approved Amount: $25,000
Year Approved: 2014

The St. Mary’s River Association completed a Salmon Recovery Strategy in 2013. One of the issues identified in the Recovery Strategy was the need to address habitat issues resulting from years of erosion because of floods and spring ice conditions which has caused sections of the main river stems to become wide and shallow. The Recovery Strategy identified the need to address this issue and this application is to fund the study/design work. The design work would include selecting the appropriate sites to be addressed, the type and design of structure to be used, and their implementation on one or two small sections of the river. These locations would be used to show case the type of work required in other sections of the river in order to secure additional funding.
