Salmon conservation and stewardship program for Pictou County

PCRA will carry out fish habitat restoration projects in the following streams: Six-Mile Brook (a tributary of the West River), West Branch River John, Upper Barneys River and Marshy Hope Brook (a tributary of the Barneys River).  These streams will have fish habitat enhanced over a length of 2.5 km. through the construction of in-stream structures.  We plan to monitor water quality in seven rivers in 2014 to look for changes in water quality over the past decade.  In 2014, we propose to repair two sections of the West River in the Salt Springs area that were damaged in the floods of September 2012.  Finally, we are proposing to look at fish passage issues at four specific problem locations.
