Reducing sediment inputs to improve salmon habitat on Trout Creek

Recipient: Kennebecasis Watershed Restoration Committee
Approved Amount: $12,500
Year Approved: 2014

A severely eroding bank along Trout Creek will be stabilized using a combination of soft and hard armouring techniques. This will reduce stream sedimentation and re-vegetate the bank, providing overhead cover and shade for salmonid species. Rock rip rap will be placed at the toe to minimize basal scour. The bank will then be excavated to a 3:1 slope.  Above the rock, trenches running the length of the bank will be excavated and filled with willow stakes.  A 10 metre riparian buffer will be established along the length of the 70 m bank and will be planted with trees and shrubs native to the area.  Follow up and monitoring will consist of regular site visits by KWRC staff.
