Retrofitting the fishway and pool 9 of Rivière-À-Mars
In the last 10 years, the river bed has greatly deepened, and has undergone significant changes. Very near the mouth of the Rivière à Mars, a fishway is found as well as a structure (above pool 9). When the water level of the river is very low, Atlantic salmon has difficulty overcoming these two barriers. Mechanical work needs to be done annually to allow salmon to go through the fishway. The situation is getting worse from year to year and indications are that these barriers will become unsurmountable for salmon. If this happens, the impact will be catastrophic for the survival of this species in this river. This project will initially assess the problem and identify the best interventions to implement.
