Salmon river habitat restoration project

Recipient: White Bay Central Development Association
Approved Amount: $15,000
Year Approved: 2018

Scammel’s Brook: The upper section has long channelized stream sections reducing normal meander patterns. To re-establish the natural meander all sections will be rehabilitated by the placement of instream boulders. Recreation of pool environments will be achieved through the installation of 10 low head barriers. In addition, 4 large pulpwood dams serve as complete obstructions to fish migration and are located at the headwaters of the stream. These will be removed, and channels will be rehabilitated.
