Petitcodiac River Salmon Restoration and Monitoring Project
Recipient: Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance (PWA)
Approved Amount: $14,000
Year Approved: 2013
The PWA monitors fish populations in the Petitcodiac River from a fish counting trap in Salisbury New Brunswick, to examine the impact of restoring fish passage for ten native fish species including the Atlantic Salmon. In addition, the PWA will perform electrofishing surveys and install stream temperature data loggers in key streams. Cold water streams are essential to cold water fish survival when water temperatures are more than 22 degrees Celsius, as such they need to be identified and protected as part of an effective stewardship plan for the Petitcodiac watershed.
