On the Road to Recovery.

Recipient: Richmond Bay Watershed Association
Approved Amount: $9,020
Year Approved: 2015

This project will focus on restoring Atlantic salmon habitat on the Trout River (Tyne Valley) and Little Trout Rivers in West Prince, PEI. The project involves fish habitat restoration through the selective removal of in-stream debris and placement of brush mats to consolidate in-stream sediment. Sediment inputs and streambed de-silting will be managed through the re-excavation of an existing sediment by-pass pond on the Bank Brook, a small tributary flowing into the Trout River.

A significant portion of headwater stream on the Trout River will be restored through the removal of a beaver colony and a beaver dam that restricts fish passage. Other activities of this watershed project will also broadly benefit Atlantic salmon and brook trout. This project adheres to the recommendations detailed in the report – Atlantic Salmon Conservation Strategy for Prince Edward Island (Guignion, 2009) and the watershed management plans already crafted for the above-noted watersheds.
