Nepisiquit Salmon Assessement and Enhancement 2017.

Recipient: Nepisiquit Salmon Association
Approved Amount: $10,500
Year Approved: 2017

The 2017 project is planned to commence with the processing of approximately 100,000 eyed salmon eggs from Charlo SEC through streamside incubation boxes set up by NSA volunteers, assisted by DNR and NB Power at the hydro facility at Nepisiquit Falls. Boxes will be filled in early May, monitored by NSA and PFN personnel through to swim up fry in June and stocked out to the Nepisiquit by NSA volunteers and crew and to Little River by PFN personnel. The bulk of the summer will be occupied by electroseining surveys to build up an ongoing picture of the relationship between juveniles and returning adults, also to check on previous spawning. Water quality surveys, mainly temperature and pH, predator and environmental surveys are carried out throughout. Minor obstructions to fish passage are removed as encountered. Stream surveys to check on habitat are carried out in September as is data compilation. When water levels, visibility and conditions allow, spawning surveys are carried out late October-early November.
