Nepisiguit Salmon Population and Habitat Assessment

Recipient: Nepisiguit Salmon Association
Approved Amount: $20,000
Year Approved: 2026

This project will implement a coordinated monitoring and assessment program across seven rivers and three tributaries to support Atlantic salmon conservation and watershed management. In spring, a smolt wheel will be deployed with support from ASF and PFN, complemented by electrofishing at a minimum of 20 sites and twice‑monthly water‑quality monitoring. Continuous temperature loggers will be installed on priority rivers, including the Nepisiguit, Middle, and Tetagouche systems. In the fall, drones will be used to identify fish passage obstructions such as beaver dams, with major barriers removed to restore connectivity. Additional activities include CABIN assessments, volunteer‑assisted redd counts on the Nepisiguit and its tributaries, and continued development of an integrated watershed management plan.
