Life history modelling project for wild Atlantic salmon

Recipient: Dalhousie University (Hutchings)
Approved Amount: $37,500 for 2019 (3rd year of 3 year project, total: $112,500)
Year Approved: 2019

Building on the previously funded modelling initiative (i.e. development a stochastic, dynamic life history model that can be used to further explore the factors affecting the survival of Atlantic salmon), this extension of the project will significantly strengthen both the scientific value of the project’s output and the probability that it will be of value to scientists and managers within DFO.  The third year of the project will provide an opportunity to: i) fully test the model; ii) apply it rigorously to as many populations as possible; iii) subject it to full peer review (by publishing papers and, if at all possible within the specified time frame, by presenting the work to DFO/ICES WGNAS); and iv) engage to the greatest extent possible with DFO salmon scientists and managers.
