LaHave River Watershed Project (LRWP) 2021

Recipient: Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation
Approved Amount: $14,000
Year Approved: 2021

The project will focus on watershed planning, fish habitat restoration, aquatic connectivity improvement, and public education.  Activities will include the creation of a Sub-watershed Fish Habitat Restoration Plan for the West River sub-watershed, installing fish habitat restoration structures such as digger logs in identified salmon nursery areas, installing structures such as chutes and baffles in culverts impeding fish passage, and public education relating to watershed health and Atlantic salmon conservation.  Over the past two field seasons, Coastal Action has focused on identifying key salmon habitat throughout the LaHave River watershed by using a combination of backpack electrofishing surveys and information obtained from recreational anglers.  Through this work, Coastal Action has successfully identified sections throughout the Main River, West Branch, and North River sub-watersheds which support salmon reproduction.  The proposed project activities would be implemented in these identified areas with a goal of increasing salmon reproductive success.
