Kedgwick River Watershed Management Plan
The goal of this project is to develop a management plan of Kedgwick River which is one of 5 main sub-watersheds of Restigouche system. That watershed presents a problem with broodstock return, with a conservation threshold of 49 % only (preliminary) in 2015 and of 60 % in 2014. The project will help characterize the present condition by analyzing reports, data and existing studies, complete inventories of habitat and supplementary salmon populations and characterize fishing effort on this river. It is also intended to develop a dialogue with governments and local First Nations about the license granted for native fisheries with weak returns. By organizing targeted stakeholder’s meetings, a management plan including concrete actions and priorisation will then be developed.
