Implementing Wild Atlantic Salmon Conservation Strategies for Tabusintac Watershed and Municipality of Alnwick
TWA and its partners will advance nine actions from the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Strategy for the Tabusintac headwaters, focusing on monitoring, habitat assessment, and collaborative stewardship. Seasonal water temperature, pH, and full water‑quality analyses—along with long‑term sensor deployment—will expand baseline data and help identify cold‑water refuges. Summer habitat surveys will flag risks such as poor riparian cover, invasive species, fragmentation, and beaver dams. Engagement with government, First Nations, academia, industry, and community groups will guide measures like low‑wake zones, standardized buffer zones, nature‑based demonstration sites, and evaluation of Scotty incubation boxes. Outreach will include an informational kiosk, signage, and social media content to highlight salmon conservation. These efforts strengthen partnerships across the watershed and support long‑term strategies to protect Atlantic salmon and their habitat
