Habitat and Migration Enhancement in the Lower Nerepis River

ACAP Saint John will advance restoration in the lower Nerepis Watershed—an important habitat corridor for Atlantic salmon, American eel, and other native fish—by implementing priority actions identified during extensive 2025 stream assessments. The project will improve fish passage through targeted debris‑jam removals, stabilize eroding banks with native riparian plantings, and enhance water quality while expanding monitoring through monthly water sampling and additional fish‑community assessments. Public outreach, including youth education, community events, and volunteer planting opportunities, will build local support for watershed stewardship. Delivered in collaboration with expert partners, this work will strengthen habitat connectivity, reduce sedimentation, and support long‑term recovery of salmon and other species in this ecologically significant system
