Freshwater Management Plan for Hare Bay, Great Northern Peninsula

Recipient: Humber Arm Environmental Association Inc.
Approved Amount: $33,571
Year Approved: 2023

Hare Bay on the Great Northern Peninsula of NL has been identified by both Environment Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada as an area of interest for potential coastal conservation measures, in support of the Government of Canada’s marine conservation targets. ACAP Humber Arm has prepared an Issues and Opportunities scoping document in support of such.

ACAP Humber Arm proposes building on the scoping document with the preparation of a management plan that would focus on the freshwater environments, Hare Bay being home to numerous scheduled salmon rivers. To develop the management plan ACAP Humber Arm will establish an expert advisory committee including representatives from local communities, First Nations, relevant government departments, and key stakeholders. Extensive research and consultation will guide development of a management plan that outlines issues and prioritizes actions to protect or restore Hare Bay’s freshwater environments.
