Fish passage restoration in 4 watersheds around St. Peters Bay through removal of beaver dams
Recipient: Morell River Management Co-Operative
Approved Amount: $14,171
Year Approved: 2010
The project proposal responds to the Guignion Report ‘A Conservation Strategy for Atlantic Salmon in Prince Edward Island’ by focusing on the removal of beaver dams determined to be affecting salmon access to spawning grounds or juvenile salmon habitat within the Morell, Midgell and St. Peters Rivers and Bristol Creek. Assessment of options for improving habitat within the Marie River will be conducted. As well, efforts will be directed at developing watershed management plans for each water system. Our first year will be dedicated to opening up identified water courses for migrating salmon, with years two and three focusing on maintaining and improving salmonid habitat within all watersheds.
