Evaluation of a recovery strategy for Atlantic salmon: impacts of stocking hatchery raised juveniles

Recipient: Canadian Rivers Institute (CRI)
Approved Amount: $5,000
Year Approved: 2013

The purpose of this project is to determine if the stocking of Atlantic salmon has increased the overall production of salmon in the Miramichi River watershed.  In order to accomplish this goal, historical data will be obtained allowing for the creation of a geographical model of salmon parr densities through time.  This model will allow us to determine which physical factors best predict salmon parr densities across the watershed.  The data will be examined in relation to stocking records (locations and rates) to determine how effective stocking has been on salmon production over the past 30+ years.
