Engaging Mi’gmaq Youth on Atlantic Salmon

Recipient: Gespe’gewaq Mi’gmaq Resource Council
Approved Amount: $13,000
Year Approved: 2013

The Gespe’gewaq Mi’gmaq Resource Council (GMRC) is engaging the youth on Atlantic salmon in the 3 communities it serves.  In the past years, ASCF have granted funds to the GMRC to develop a curriculum regarding the Atlantic salmon called “Calling back the salmon”. This module was completed in 2010 and is now ready to be integrated in the grade 7-8 classes science program.  Our next objective is to translate the document to offer the educational material to the French Immersion classes in subsequent years.  The second aspect to this project is a program called Fish Friends. In 2013, Fish Friends will be carried out with grade 5 English classes.
