Development of the LaHave River Watershed Management Plan: Year 2 – West River sub-watershed

Recipient: Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation (BCAF)
Approved Amount: $5,000
Year Approved: 2013

This project will seek to develop a management plan with support from the community and involvement of all stakeholders. The plan will set priorities for restoration efforts, identify degraded habitats, and direct future conservation initiatives. It will also bring together community groups to work collectively to implement future restoration, enhancement, and stewardship/education projects within the watershed. It will address items such as connectivity / fish passage, water quality, physical fish habitat requirements, state of adjacent riparian areas, as well as adjacent land use practices. Due to the considerable expanse of the LaHave River watershed, the second largest watershed on the South Shore, the development of a watershed management plan for the entire system is expected to be a multi-year venture. The proposed project constitutes Year 2 of the project and will focus efforts on the West River sub-watershed.
