Closing Data and Restoration Gaps in the Kennebecasis

Recipient: Kennebecasis Watershed Restoration Committee
Approved Amount: $10,000 (2nd year of 2-year project, total: $25,000)
Year Approved: 2018

In 2018 the KWRC is focusing on closing some restoration and data gaps and this project will assist in that effort. There is a short reach on Ward’s Creek where recent discussion has led to the land owner now supporting the approach of the KWRC and we would like to use bioengineering approaches to stabilize the eroding site and improve fish passage through the reach. Further the KWRC is working with the Department of Transportation to remove fish passage barriers at 4 sites. Lastly the KWRC wishes to visit some electrofishing sites to assess Atlantic salmon numbers by attaining parr and smolt presence. This will close an existing data gap and allow us to recommend management approaches for Atlantic salmon moving forward.
