Barrier – 10 Miles Pool

Recipient: Restigouche River Watershed Management Council Inc.
Approved Amount: $14,000
Year Approved: 2021

Following heavy rainfall and disrepair of the salmon barrier at the site of 10 Miles pool on Northwest Upsalquitch River, the existing metal and aluminum barrier was damaged and must be replaced. The goal of the project is to replace the existing barrier with an updated version, a floating barrier, and install it on the site in the spring of 2021. A floating barrier will be easier to maintain, will respond more effectively to flooding events, make it easier to clear accumulated surface debris, and will maximize holding capacity efficiency. The barrier will be 42m in length and made of pvc pipe and steel cables. Substituting a steel barrier with a floating barrier is an innovative measure for the province of New Brunswick. In the long term, this type of barrier reduces general costs for Atlantic salmon protection.
