Atlantic Salmon-Kouchibouguacis watershed (education, egg incubation, restoration and monitoring)

Recipient: Friends of the Kouchibouguacis
Approved Amount: $10,000
Year Approved: 2019

This project covers a number of components that will benefit the Atlantic salmon population and its habitat in the Kouchibouguac and Kouchibouguacis River watershed. Different monitoring methods will be used to collect data on salmon (and other fish species) population, available habitat, migration, age, along with water quality and environmental parameters. Salmon eggs/milt will be collected for incubation purposes. Different means will be applied towards educational efforts; kiosk sessions will be set up at strategic locations for targeting residents from the surrounding communities. In-class presentations, outdoors activity and field trips will be offered to the students from the local schools. Photos and videos will be taken and shared on social media.
