Recipient: Chaleur Bay Watershed Group
Approved Amount: $24,000
Year Approved: 2015

The objective of this project is to improve Atlantic salmon habitat in Jacquet River watershed. A management plan was developed and shows fluctuation in salmon population. It also shows priority restoration sites. Restoration techniques will come from the manual “Ecological Restoration of Degraded Aquatic Habitats: A Watershed Approach”. The work includes mainly selective removal of natural debris, complete removal of human debris in the buffer zone and in the watercourses, alder thinning when they block fish passage, stabilizing the banks, and adding retaining structures or deflectors on damaged waterstream banks.
