Atlantic Salmon Habitat Restoration & Enhancement Phase 8
HRA and the Pisquid River Enhancement Project (PREP) will continue implementing the recommendations from the “A Renewed Conservation Strategy for Atlantic Salmon on PEI” (Guignion et al., 2019). They will maintain beaver-free zones on the Pisquid and Vernon Rivers and Clark’s Creek, open salmon infrastructure access, remove blowdowns to restore fish access, excavate silt from sediment traps that serve as holding pools, monitor water temperature and nitrate levels, continue salmon redd and electrofishing surveys, educate student employees, elementary school students, and landowners, acknowledge FCAS contributions via social media, and release the annual Hillsborough Tidings newsletter. They will also install five bank deflector logs, 30 meters of brush mats, and five floating cover logs and plant and maintain 300 native trees and shrubs to enrich biodiversity and create stream shade.
