Atlantic Salmon Conservation Strategy – Pokemouche River Watershed

Recipient: Comité de Gestion Environnementale de la Rivière Pokemouche Inc.
Approved Amount: $7,000
Year Approved: 2026

The project aims to improve the protection and understanding of Atlantic salmon populations in the Pokemouche River watershed through an annual monitoring program. It includes electrofishing surveys at 18 sites to document juvenile abundance, a count of spawning nests using boat surveys and drone imagery, as well as the use of environmental DNA to detect the presence of salmon and locate spawning areas. Together, these actions will provide an accurate picture of the status of the populations and support the development of a future conservation plan, subject to future funding.
