Aquatic Conservation Plan for Warm Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador

Recipient: Qalipu First Nation
Approved Amount: $15,000
Year Approved: 2019

The development of this conservation plan will focus on Warm Brook, which runs through the communities of Stephenville and Noel’s Pond, NL. In developing this plan, we will identify environmental assets and threats to Warm Brook and the valuable salmon habitat it provides. We will also provide strategies for mitigating said threats, and conservation and stewardship guidelines pertaining to the area surrounding Warm Brook.

The project will take place over a one-year period beginning with a literature review, shortly followed by the collection of baseline data and developing an inventory of river characteristics, land use in adjacent areas, salmon redds survey information, environmental threats and assets. Once the data is collected, it will be compiled and analyzed in order to provide recommendation on conservative, mitigative, and stewardship measures. This will contribute to the authoring of the conservation plan for Warm Brook.
