Fredericton, New Brunswick – September 22nd, 2025 – The Foundation for the Conservation of Atlantic Salmon (FCAS) is accepting applications for projects responding to wild Atlantic salmon conservation imperatives across Atlantic Canada and Quebec, with $1.875 million available in funding for 2026. Open to municipalities, Indigenous groups, educational institutions, community and conservation associations among others, the annual funding is allocated to unique and innovative projects focused on conservation, restoration, education and scientific research. Applications for 2026 are due 14 November 2025 and details on the application process are available at FCAS-FCSA.ca.
“Faced with the unprecedented challenges that Atlantic salmon have been facing over the past several years, our determination to support projects has never been stronger. The remarkable work accomplished by our beneficiary partners has not only had a decisive impact on the conservation of Atlantic salmon, but also on the coastal communities involved in Atlantic Canada and Quebec.”- Raymond Lacroix, President and Chairman of FCAS
Since 2008, made possible by an endowment fund established by the federal government (DFO), the FCAS has annually supported conservation projects in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador. In total, the FCAS has provided $17.5 million to 956 projects, including almost $2 million to 94 Indigenous led projects, and contributed to over 200 million m2 of habitat being opened or improved to date.
“Atlantic salmon are part of who we are in Atlantic Canada and Quebec. The Foundation for the Conservation of Atlantic Salmon has done marvelous work over the years to support local and Indigenous groups that care deeply about our rivers and communities. I’m proud that through this funding we can keep backing their efforts to protect and restore wild salmon for generations to come.”
– Hon. Joanne Thompson, Minister of Fisheries, and Member of Parliament for St. John’s East
The FCAS welcomes applications from current and former recipient partners and encourages first-time groups and organizations who meet the criteria to apply.
“With so much work left to be done, it is inspiring to see applications from groups dedicated to Atlantic salmon conservation each year. As in previous years, we are committed to expanding our scope to include more individuals and organizations that could benefit from the Foundation’s funding,” said R. Lacroix.
