Development of spatial analysis methods for sustainable management of Atlantic salmon fishing in the context of warm waters and climate change on the Matane River

The project is developing a scientific yet accessible approach to identify river segments with high potential as cold-water refuges, which are essential to the survival of Atlantic salmon during heat waves. By combining geospatial, geological, and hydrological data, it aims to map these areas to enable more precise management of warm-water fishing, reduce complete river closures, and support communities dependent on recreational fishing. Validated on the Matane River, the resulting index will be transferable to other salmon rivers to promote sustainable fishing in a warming climate.
