Broken Brooks
The Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance is continuing its work to improve fish passage and support the recovery of inner Bay of Fundy Atlantic salmon by collecting culvert passability data and prioritizing sites for remediation. This year’s goal is to restore access to roughly 4 km of upstream habitat by installing student‑built outflow chutes on barrier culverts, while also reassessing previously installed structures and beginning fish‑use monitoring through seine surveys. Additional efforts include removing debris to open another 2 km of habitat and installing rock weirs to stabilize outflow pools and improve water levels. Alongside restoration work, the PWA will continue community outreach, educational presentations, and its involvement in the Fish Friends Program to promote watershed stewardship and awareness of fish passage.
