Fishway construction support, Mahers River

The Town’s Holy Cross Park area has been used as a recreational center for over 20 years and has been supporting research for over two. Resent research and conversations with conservation-minded residents has confirmed an exciting opportunity to enhance the river and assist in conserving the remaining run of Atlantic salmon. We have recently completed the design of a fishway for the park that would allow Atlantic salmon to return to the river throughout the summer season. Funding for the fishway construction was secured from DFO (RFCPP funding); however, all bids we received were $100,000 in excess of currently available funds. To complete the project, the Town of Holyrood is requesting additional funding to complete this important project.
