Restoring Atlantic Salmon in the Shediac and Scoudouc Rivers

Recipient: Shediac Bay Watershed Association
Approved Amount: $13,000
Year Approved: 2019

In 2018, the Association worked to prepare a new fisheries management plan. The template was done for main branches of the Shediac and Scoudouc Rivers and in 2019, the Association will be working on specific sub-watersheds.  Habitat restoration will mostly focus on riparian zone reforestation and stream bank stabilization. The partnership with the ATV clubs will continue to maintain the sites restored and identify other trails needing restoration. Culverts and debris jams are the main barriers to fish passage in the watershed. The Association will remediate at least one of these culverts and a debris jam.  The Association will continue delivering school presentations and organize outings, as well as outreach communications both on-line and at public events such as the Shediac Lobster Festival and the farmer’s market.
