Rattling Brook Salmon Restoration Project.

Recipient: Norris Arm & Area Economic Development Committee
Approved Amount: $32,000
Year Approved: 2015

This project involves building a fish passage and restoring 2,000 adult salmon to the Rattling Brook watershed over a 5 year period. We have completed 3 years of the transfer with a total of 800 fish still to be transferred in 2014 and 2015.

Construction is completed on a fish pass which allows for downstream migration of salmon kelts and smolt around the Rattling Brook Power generation facility. Materials for upstream fish passage are on site and all of the civil engineering works have been completed by Newfoundland Power Inc. The upstream fish pass is expected to be completed in time for the upstream migration of grilse and adult salmon in 2014.

The remaining salmon will continue to be sourced from Great Rattling Brook or the Grand Falls Fish way. A new tagging and monitoring program is being put in place by DFO with the first 500 juvenile fish scheduled to be tagged in September 2013.
