Habitat and recolonization – Little Main Restigouche River.

Recipient: Conseil de gestion du bassin versant de la rivière Restigouche
Approved Amount: $11,000
Year Approved: 2018

This project aims to remove a series of barriers created by jams on Little Main Restigouche River to restore access to a good quality habitat for Atlantic salmon reproduction. Along with restoring access, the objective of this project is the recolonization of fragmented habitats left vacant by barriers for a long period of time. The recolonization of targeted habitats will be completed using Scotty Boxes loaded with eggs from broodstock captured below those obstructions. A total of 20,000 eggs for 2018 will ensure the rapid recolonization of habitats that are presently vacant.
