Evaluating spawning grounds in Laval and Escoumins rivers: Watershed-scale Atlantic salmon conservation plan

Recipient: Organisme des Bassins Versants de la Haute-Côte-Nord
Approved Amount: $9,397
Year Approved: 2018

The projet involves a canoe trip on Laval and Escoumins Rivers during a low-flow period to charaterize substrate and flow facies when these data do not exist and validate them when they do exist. Afterward, during spawning period, the most interesting sites in terms of spawning grounds will be the subject of a scuba diving survey to count the number of redds and spawners. With this project, precious and precise knowledge will be acquired on sites used by Atlantic salmon for reproduction on these rivers and finally ensure protection and permanency of those sites.
