Eel River Atlantic salmon habitat recovery project 2018

This project will continue the implementation of the 2010 and 2016 strategic and operational fisheries management plans for the Eel River drainage waters and Restigouche County.

The following management activities will be undertaken in 2018:

• Collect and transport Atlantic salmon brood stock to the Charlo Salmonid Enhancement facility for subsequent egg stripping and egg incubation
• Removal or breaching of woody debris and beaver dam blockages
• Purging riffle areas with embedded silt concentrations of 20% or more on the lower reaches of South and North Branch streams
• Address shoreline erosion sites
• Undertake electrofishing (stream population estimations) surveys
• Perform salmon redd surveys on 2017 index reaches for the four Eel River branches
• Releasing fry from the fish friends program
• Conduct information sessions designed to educate the public about salmon conservation
