Watershed Assessment and Preliminary Restoration Plan for the Little River

Recipient: Cumberland County River Enhancement Association
Project Title: Watershed Assessment and Preliminary Restoration Plan for the Little River.
Project Location: Oxford, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia
Approved Grant Amount for 2008: $21,640.00

Summary:
Assess the current state of the river, including identification of key processes and root causes of instability causing watershed level habitat problems for Atlantic salmon. Develop a restoration strategy that prioritizes the areas in the greatest need of stabilization, based on the need to holistically restore fish habitat (spawning/rearing, over wintering habitat, riparian corridor, etc…), protect riparian zone integrity; in combination with the areas that are the best candidates for success. All restoration recommendations will address the root cause of instability, while enhancing aquatic habitat and the riverine ecosystem.
